Covid-19 and Air Conditioning

A question that is often asked is: Can the Covid-19 virus still be infectious after travelling through an air conditioning system?

At this stage, the answer is that it is unlikely. While a recently published study showed that the virus can survive up to 3 hours while airborne, the study was more applicable to a hospital room environment rather than to viral particles travelling through air conditioning duct.

The viral particles have been shown to travel inside small moisture droplets. It is likely that the dessication effect of the high airflow inside ducts dries these out which then inactivates the viral particles.
